The Wind Ensemble is designed for experienced amateurs and students to rehearse and perform significant repertoire written for the medium.

This year, to celebrate the summer school’s 70th anniversary, the core of the repertoire will centre around the music of celebrated Sherborne (Canford) alumni and teaching staff. It is hoped that several of them will spend time with the Wind Conducting class and assist in the preparation of their works for performance with the Wind Ensemble. Works marked with an asterisk are pieces that are by composers associated with the summer school. Some of the repertoire will be studied in depth and form the basis for several concerts the Wind Ensemble gives during the week. The remainder will be played in repertoire sessions. There will be opportunities for chamber music and there is close liaison with the Wind Conducting Course.

Applicants are asked to note any “doubling” instruments they play and can bring on their application form.

Please note
This year the summer school will not have a music shop in residence. If so desired, Wind Conducting students are asked to purchase scores of the Wind Ensemble course repertoire before they arrive at the school, either from their local music shop or from our nominated internet supplier, Forwoods ScoreStore (0800 9072 0354). Click on the following link to take you straight to the Sherborne Summer School section of the Forwoods website and there you will find all the music for this course ready to purchase  :  scorestore.co.uk
